Semiconductor Component Shortage Hits Industry
The impact of COVID-19 on the semiconductor supply chain has extended leadtimes of industrial and automotive electronics. A range events: Fire at AKM's fab, Earthquake in Japan, Cold snap in Texas which closed Samsung flash memory fab has produced extended leadtimes on a range of key components including:
- Specific Intel CPUs
- NXP processors
- Precision location components
- Wifi, LTE modules and RF components
- Audio ICs
- Networking ICs
- PCBs
Some components have leadtimes up 52+ weeks and the shortages of DRAM and Flash continue to see price rises. Tekdis recommends customers plan for leadtimes of 12-16 weeks and place forward orders ASAP to secure stock for Q3 onwards.
